Does the February 2014 LATCH standard change affect the self-installing car seat?
In February of 2014 there was an amendment to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213, which is the standard that applies to car seats sold in the United States. It introduced weight limits for the lower anchors in your vehicle. For rear facing seats, this lower anchor weight limit is 65lbs, meaning that the combined weight of both the child and the car seat cannot be more than 65lbs. The 4moms self-installing car seat (carrier + base) weighs 29.5lbs and the weight limit for the seat is 30lbs, resulting in a maximum total combined weight of 59.5lbs. Therefore, the self-installing car seat is not affected by this update to the standard.
